Crawl!

Images from the March sketchcrawl in Griffith park. Have at em.

Splooshed some color on the drawing from the previous post. I think I like the original because it gets at a little of the joy and looseness I want in the film. Tried to keep the coloring loose too.

And fer fun, here's another rough board page from Fran's night out. I like seeing other folks rough stuff so maybe people will kike to see mine too. I grow to love Fran more and more. The most I can hope for is that this story will balance on the fickle pinpoint between "Wow, that was cool and unique!" and "Oh God. What was that, and why do my eyeballs burn?!"

Gotta ruuuuuun.

A Story Problem

It's time to admit it.
I....
I have a story problem.
It's kind of like having a drinking problem. But more work.
I used to be able to draw pretty things just for the sake of pretty things. My sketchbook was filled with all sorts of cute and unusual creature/things doing varied and seperate numbers of cute/unusal actions.
But now all that's in my sketchbook is whatever current cast of characters that are getting their stories worked on. These characters are so demanding and destructive that they've stamped out all the cute creature/things that used to roam those creamy white pages. They are story/character drawings and they are all I can seem to draw. They are joined by gesture/observational drawings. This is the story problem. I can't go enjoy a nice, thoughtless doodle anymore. The stories come stamping in, demanding I draw them and them alone until they are done. For me, it makes a boring sketchbook. Here is more of it.

Composition studies for Fran's Night Out.

Gathered sketch dumpage. Iop, Kite, Dustbunny, Fran, the Oscars, and Fergie the cinnamon roll golem

The pair

The Kite girl is so happy. She is so happy because she found her name. Not just "Flyer." And she knows that now that I know her name, we'll spend more time together. I think I'll color this.

Fran's Night of endless boarding.

Ages and ages since I last bloggled. I know. But look over here! Storyboards!
Here's the first page of pages and pages of new storyboards I've drawn for the Crone story. This and two other pages went into my new portfolio. I'm in process of cleaning up the remaining pages, and then I'll snap em all together in final cut and inkplay will have another storyreel/film type thing on it!
The story has been retitled Fran's night out. That's Fran. She's going to give that lizard a night he'll never forget. I've also included my dirty gross thumbnails and some research doodles.
I also returned from Wondercon and Norcal this weekend. Good con. Like a San Diego con lite, just what I was looking for. I got inspired by friends and surroundings. And berkley has so.... many... coffeeshops.
There's three main projects on my mind these days, and I want to get them done! This reel. Dustbunny. And the iope comic. Wish I could draw crazy new ideas for crazy fun, but my brain has locked down, and will let me draw nothing but 1x1.85 boxes.
See you next time?
